The Guy Who Fixes Stuff

3D Printer Repair

3dprint03Cincinnati Repair is getting into the 3D printer business.

The 3D printer business is very unlike the printer industry.  There are several enormous differences:

1 - The Industry Isn't Dominated By One Or Two 3D Printer Brands

Most offices had at least one, if not dozens, of HP printers.  They might use Canon instead, but many of those were really HP printers with Canon covers.  There were a few other brands, but the one that dominated was HP.  This hasn't happened with 3D printers yet--certainly not with 3D printers in Cincinnati.  There are many brands to choose from, and many levels of quality.

3dprint052 - The Industry Isn't Dominated By One or Two Technologies

True--there are a lot of different printing technologies--but most printers in homes and offices were either xerographic or inkjet printers.  In fact, the other technologies were generally limited to one or two industries.  The thermal printers, for example, are mostly used in receipt and POS situations.

There are several ways to print 3 dimensions, and the number is constantly increasing.  Most common 3D printers use filaments or (Fused Deposit Modeling) FDM.  These deposit some sort of plastic down in layers.  Another popular one is Stereolithography (SLA).  This uses UV light to harden resin in layers.  But there are constantly major improvements on these ways, and what's more, they're constantly coming up with new ways to print 3D.  Although, right now, if you talk about '3D Printing,' you're usually talking about one of these two methods.

3 - Most 3D Enthusiests Work On Their Own Equipment

This makes it difficult to make any money in repair.  Especially when there are so many different brands, customers are few and far between.

But this is beginning to change.  Reason number 4 is why.

4 - Most 3D Printers Are Used In Hobbies

3D printing hasn't dominated the manufacturing industry yet.  In cases where it is used, the 3D printers are often made internally, and so 3D printer techs just don't exist.  But as we find more and more uses for 3D printers, they become more and more part of industry.  Prototypes were one time the only things being printed... but now, more and more components can be made and used.

For all of these reasons, not many companies offer 3D printing repair services... certainly none in the Cincinnati area.  But the wait is over.  Cincinnati Repair has answered the call!
